More than 10,000 athletes are set to compete in Paris at the Summer Olympics, but first, each athlete will have one night to soak in the moment in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Plenty about this year's opening ceremony will be different. Rather than athletes filing into an arena country-by-country, each nation's Olympic delegation will parade through the Seine River, allowing more fans than ever to see the ceremony up close.

The world will be watching as some of the most talented athletes on the planet celebrate the formal start of the Summer Games, and now viewers can find out exactly when their country's stars will be welcomed to Paris. 

Here's a complete look at the order in which each country's athletes will be welcomed to Paris at the opening ceremony on Friday.

Order of countries in Olympic opening ceremony

Countries enter the parade of nations in alphabetical order, based on the host country's language. In this case, that is French.

There are some exceptions. As the host country, France will enter last. France will be directly preceded by the United States, which will be preceded by Australia, because those are the next two host nations for the Summer Games.

Greece, meanwhile, always comes out first as a tribute to the ancient Olympic games, while the Refugee Olympic Team has come out second since it was formed.
