Could Washington Commanders trade for Panthers WR ahead of final cuts?

Could Washington Commanders trade for Panthers WR ahead of final cuts? image

Might the Washington Commanders have one last surprise trade in them before final cuts?

Those Commanders traded away former first-round wideout Jahan Dotson—to a division rival, no less. Now, there’s a rotation of names set to work in the base offense alongside No. 1 Terry McLaurin.

Unless the Commanders make another move.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Carolina Panthers “have been shopping Terrace Marshall to teams that might need a receiver” before final cuts.

Marshall is one of the more interesting possible trade names for the Commanders out there. He’s a former second-round pick out of LSU who hasn’t realized his full potential just yet, tallying just 767 yards and one touchdown over 36 career games.

Still, there’s a chance Marshall just needs a change of scenery, especially with Diontae Johnson, Xavier Legette and Adam Thielen now dominating the wideout depth chart in Carolina.

The Commanders are now flush with extra draft picks after the Dotson trade and Marshall shouldn’t be all that costly. On the last year of his rookie deal, Marshall would be a one-year rental with little risk and some notable upside.

For now, the Commanders will proceed with rookie Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus as the other pieces in the attack with McLaurin around Jayden Daniels. But it’s hard to imagine coordinator Kliff Kingsbury wouldn’t like the idea of adding another upside-minded weapon and letting the best players earn their way onto the field.
