Injuries are a part of life in the NFL, but the Seattle Seahawks are a little bit dinged up for this early in the season. Heading into their Week 3 matchup with the Miami Dolphins, several critical players are either out this week or unlikely to play. Edge rushers Boye Mafe and Derick Hall are both listed as questionable, while right tackle George Fant and edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu have already been ruled out. Meanwhile, starting running back Ken Walker is listed as doubtful to play.
The Dolphins are well-coached and won't go down easily even without Tua Tagovailoa, but the Seahawks should be able to take care of business against Skylar Thompson, assuming head coach Mike Macdonald can break the team's absurd curse playing against backup quarterbacks. That would give Seattle a 3-0 record going into their big Monday Night Football matchup with the Detroit Lions in Week 4.
More good news: Macdonald seems to believe that two of his most-important injured players will be able to return for that game.
Kenneth Walker III
Asked about the status of Walker for this week's game on Friday, Macdonald said it's not looking good for Sunday, but he also claimed that there is optimism Walker would be able to play next Monday night in Detroit. This is according to team beat reporter John Boyle. Walker has been sidelined by an oblique injury that he suffered late in the season opener against the Denver Broncos. Last week they elevated George Holani from the practice squad and they have Kenny McIntosh waiting in the wings, but thus far Zach Charbonnet is the only other Seahawks running back who's gotten a single carry this year.
Uchenna Nwosu
Not counting right tackle Abe Lucas, the other big name that's injured right now for the Seahawks is starting outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu. He suffered a sprained MCL in the preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns and has been out since. Macdonald told the media yesterday that he's also optimistic Nwosu will return next week, per Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune. With Nwosu out Boye Mafe and Derick Hall have done an excellent job rushing the passer and the Seahawks currently lead the league in pressures. However, they could use Nwosu's help against the run.
The Seahawks have had their number historically, but on paper this Lions team is better and they are considered four-point favorites for now.
