The Pittsburgh Steelers were dealt a blow to their offensive line to begin the season after veteran guard Isaac Seumalo came down with an injury that has forced him to miss the first two games of the 2024 season so far.
Seumalo suffered a pectoral injury prior to Week 1 and is expected to miss the first month of the season, which was great news considering pectoral injuries can often prove to be more serious. According to the team's official injury report this week, Seumalo still isn't practicing, so it's going to be at least another week for him.
In his stead, the Steelers have rolled with second-year guard Spencer Anderson, who has given up five pressures but no sacks, per Pro Football Focus. Behind him, Pittsburgh has rookie guard Mason McCormick as insurance.
But Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine thinks the Steelers need to do more, so he suggested the team sign veteran interior offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton, who is currently on the Denver Broncos' practice squad.
"The Steelers' depth on the interior is being challenged with Isaac Seumalo's injury at left guard," Ballentine wrote. "They are starting Spencer Anderson, but it's worth exploring the available veteran options. Calvin Throckmorton wasn't great for the Panthers last season, but he didn't surrender a single sack on 564 snaps, per PFF."
While Throckmorton would be a decent depth addition, the Steelers aren't at the point that they need to bring someone in. Even if Anderson falters, Pittsburgh would just turn to McCormick to take his place.
Should Anderson get hurt, that might change things, but for now the Steelers have enough to weather the storm while Seumalo recovers.
