Saquon Barkley’s Eagles debut went at least as well as anyone could expect in Week 1, as he rushed 24 times for 109 yards and two scores, while catching two passes for 23 yards and other score.
Barkley’s role in a 34-29 win over Green Bay not only has him in the Week 1 lead so far in Fantasy Football scoring, it could well earn him NFL top weekly offensive honors when those come out.
It’s also enough to make the New York Giants look even worse for letting him go, as Mike Sando of The Athletic discusses in his Week 1 review recalling this “Hard Knocks” episode from the offseason.
And this quote from Sando’s story:
“My feel is John Mara, if not for Hard Knocks, would have put his foot down (to stop Barkley from leaving), but he didn’t want to be perceived as meddling,” a long-tenured exec from another team said.”
The thought of Barkley beating his old team twice certainly has merit after the Giants lost 28-6 to the Vikings on Sunday. But we won’t know that until Oct. 20, when the two teams meet in Met Life Stadium. They close the season together on Jan. 5 in Philadelphia.
