The Philadelphia Eagles made a move to bolster their wide receiver room prior to NFL cut-down day, swinging a trade with the Washington Commanders for former first-round pick Jahan Dotson.

General manager Howie Roseman shouldn’t stop there.

A talented wide receiver, one with experience in new Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore’s system, was surprisingly released prior to Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline. The Houston Texans had a surplus at the position and simply couldn’t keep them all.

That means Noah Brown, who broke into the league with the Dallas Cowboys as a seventh-round pick in 2017, is suddenly available as a free agent. He won’t be available for long, and the Eagles should go get him.

Brown had some productive seasons with Moore in Dallas as a fill-in No. 3 receiver. He flashed some serious skills with the Texans last year, basically carrying the Texans’ passing game on his shoulders through an electric two-game stretch:

The Eagles could have explored a trade for Brown during the preseason, but they likely preferred Dotson’s versatility as an outside burner who can also play in the slot. Outside of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, their wide receiver depth chart features unproven talent in Dotson, Britain Covey and rookie Johnny Wilson. Brown could be a solution to what has been a problem with this group all offseason.

The Texans re-signed Brown to a one-year, $4 million contract with $3 million in guarantees back in March. So along with proven production, experience with Moore in Dallas, and some chops on special teams, he’s also cheap.

Roseman met with the media Tuesday and stressed the fluidity of the roster-finalizing process. Could that fluidity include a familiar wide receiver in Noah Brown?

“We're incomplete right now,” Roseman said. “We're at 53, but we really view it as a 70-man roster. We've got to go through that here in the next 24 hours to get some players back. We don't know how that's going to go.”
