General manager Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have found their No. 3 wide receiver.

The Eagles are reportedly sending draft picks to the NFC East rival Washington Commanders in exchange for Jahan Dotson, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The writing had been on the wall with Dotson, who was in the news last week after dropping some comments about new head coach Dan Quinn. In Washington, he never materialized into a dependable No. 2 receiver behind Terry McLaurin, hauling in a combined 84 passes for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in 29 career games. That the Commanders were willing to move him to a division rival is even more telling.

What are the Eagles getting in their new 24-year-old receiver? Speed.

Roseman has been looking to add a burner to offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's arsenal. John Ross, who they signed out of retirement this offseason, fits that description, but he missed the last week of camp with a concussion.

Dotson certainly qualifies as a burner. He ran a 4.43 at the 2022 scouting combine, and Bleacher Report described him as having “long speed to take the top off defenses. He is also a very good route-runner, already showing an extended route tree and the polish to win on a variety of different routes at all three levels."

The Eagles had a glaring need at No. 3 receiver throughout training camp. Dotson should get a chance to slot in behind starters A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith immediately, allowing players like Britain Covey and Johnny Wilson to develop further down the depth chart. The move places veterans like Ross and Parris Campbell firmly on the Eagles’ roster bubble.
