Los Angeles Rams reportedly tried to sign veteran corner before retirement image

Former Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson retired on Sunday. However, he had plenty of suitors interested in signing him this offseason, according to a recent report. 

One of those teams was the Los Angeles Rams, who spent significant resources on acquiring veteran defensive backs this offseason. According to NFL Insider Aaron Wilson, the Rams were one of at least six teams who "made prospective contract offers or serious inquiries" on Nelson. 

Nelson played in 130 games over his eight-year career. He finished his career with 13 interceptions and 47 PBUs. 

The report doesn't tell us whether or not the Rams inquired about signing Nelson before or after they acquired players like Tre'Davious White and Darious Williams. Nelson is a primarily outside corner where White and Williams will play, so there would have been some overlap between the three.  

However, Nelson did say that he would keep his body in shape to continue playing if the right opportunity appeared. He could be an option to keep an eye on if White is slower to return from injury than the Rams expect or an injury occurs in their cornerback room.
