The New England Patriots have put a lot of work into paying their own free agents and even some of their players who weren't expected to hit the market until next year.
One of those players was linebacker Jahlani Tavai, who New England signed to a new three-year deal worth up to $21 million. Now, we have the details of the extension.
According to Over the Cap, Tavai will receive salaries of $1.125 million (fully guaranteed) in 2024, $1.5 million (fully guaranteed) in 2025, $3 million ($600,000 guaranteed) in 2026 and $2.88 million in 2027. He'll have prorated signing bonus payouts of $1.73 million in 2024 and $1.44 million over the following three years.
Tavai will also have per-game roster bonuses of $500,000 in 2024 and $750,000 in the three years after that as well as workout bonuses of $100,000 in 2024 and $250,000 every year from 2025-27.
Against the cap, Tavai will count for $3.45 million in 2024, $3.94 million in 2025, $5.44 million in 2026 and $5.32 million in 2027.
He'll also have playtime bonuses from 2025-27.
The Patriots could move on from Tavai before the 2026 season as a post-June 1 cut and save more than they'd incur in a dead-cap penalty.
