New York Giants running back Devin Singletary has some big shoes to fill as the starter taking over for Saquon Barkley.
No one is expecting Singletary to put up the gaudy numbers that Barkley did when he was healthy wearing a Giants uniform, but he is going to be expected to produce as a quality starter in the NFL.
However, he got little love in the NFL starting running back rankings from Pro Football Focus. The only players he ranked ahead of were Gus Edwards and Zamir White.
Singletary was intended to be the backup for Dameon Pierce, but a fine run of performances, as well as disappointing ones from Pierce, saw the former Bills running back jump up the depth chart and not look back. Singletary carried the ball a career-high 216 times for 898 yards and four touchdowns while earning a 70.8 grade.
His 23 explosive runs tied for 13th in the NFL, and he was top 20 in yards after contact, too. ultimately will be the starting running back for the Giants in 2024.
Singletary signed a three-year deal with the Giants in free agency, reuniting with head coach Brian Daboll from their days with the Buffalo Bills.
Considering how the rest of the depth chart looks, Singletary is walking right into the lead role. The competition behind him is sparse, but there is a little hype surrounding rookie Tyrone Tracy and his upside.
Still, the Giants hope they get better production than the third-worst starting running back in the NFL.
