Sound the alarms. Light the beacons. Kirk Cousins is unlikely to see any snaps this preseason.
Early Wednesday morning, the topic of preseason participation was lobbed at new Atlanta Falcons Head Coach, Raheem Morris. While nothing definitive was stated, Morris was unsure if Cousins would play in any of the games. We learned later this afternoon in the post-practice presser that those more definitive statements are being made in private.
Cousins told the media group that his preseason playtime request has been reviewed, but has yet to be accepted. He said, "Raheem's model is, 'You're not playing.'"
Seems pretty straightforward.
But Captain Kirk may have a few tricks up his sleeves, as he says he will work to persuade him during the coming weeks.
Arthur Smith was famously lit up by fans and media alike for his handling of preseason playtime, most notably the Quarterbacks. Desmond Ridder didn't take a single snap, something highly abnormal for inexperienced and young quarterbacks, but Kirk is neither. Cousins has over a decade's worth of experience, and since his arrival, his teammates have lauded his preparation.
It would still be nice to see maybe a drive or two of the marquee free agent acquisition; then again, that just means we'll get an even bigger preview of the eighth overall draft pick, Michael Penix Jr.
