The Las Vegas Raiders lost their starting running back this offseason when Josh Jacobs signed with the Green Bay Packers in free agency — and it appears he at least floated the idea of Davante Adams returning to his old team.
During Packers OTAs practice on Wednesday, Jacobs said that he sent Adams a text message after signing with the veteran wide receiver's old team and asked Adams if he was thinking about coming back.
"When I came out here ... I sent him the little eyes emoji," Jacobs said. "I said, ‘You thinking about coming back?’ But man, he loved it."
Not exactly a direct recruiting pitch, but it's clear Jacobs wouldn't mind reuniting with his former teammate and was putting out the feeler to see how Adams would react.
Jacobs also heaped praise on Adams, saying the star wideout showed him how to be great on a day-by-day basis.
“Having Davante Adams come to the Raiders was the best thing for me," he said. "I seen a player be great on a day-to-day basis. For me, that's what I try to bring.”
Of course, Adams would have to be traded if he wanted out of Las Vegas at any point, but he has made it quite clear that he's going to stay on the Raiders and doesn't want to be dealt.
He did, however, heap praise on Packers quarterback Jordan Love, but also noted that he has no regrets about leaving Green Bay.
"At the time when I was (in Green Bay), I hadn't necessarily seen enough to say this is for sure what I should do," Adams said of his decision to leave. "But in hindsight, like we talked about, (Love) is a f------ baller, man. I'm so happy for him.
"I haven't really had a chance to truly sit down and talk with him, but I want to tell him at some point like, 'I definitely don't regret changing [teams], but I'm super proud of what you've done. If there's a way I could pull you over here [to Las Vegas] and drag you with me like that, that would've been cool, too.'
"Obviously, we saw what he did at the end of the year. I don't regret what I did, but, at the same time, it's definitely you look back on it like, 'damn, that boy kind of balling right now.'"
The 32-year-old wide receiver has two more years left on his contract after this year. It is possible that the Raiders would trade him if the 2024 campaign is a disaster, but Las Vegas should be competitive enough to avoid that.
