The Houston Texans began their preseason schedule last night against the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame game. While they lost, what really matters is getting game experience for the players who need it the most. For this team that means the offensive line.
Even though head coach DeMeco Ryans sat almost all of his starters, including rookie cornerback Kamari Lassiter, there was still room for plenty of reps for a couple of starters up front. That includes center Juice Scruggs and left guard Kenyon Green, who did get some real playing time. Here's Ryans after the game on the important of live reps.
"There's no better teacher than live reps."

The Texans have a strong roster overall, but if there's a weak point it's that offensive line. Aside from left tackle Laremy Tunsil and right guard Shaq Mason, the rest of the starters are as yet unproven at this level. The more reps they can get before the real games begin, the better.
Nevertheless, it would make a lot of sense to bring in a little more offensive line help before the regular season starts. The Texans have over $20 million in cap space left for 2024, which is more than enough to make a splash signing or two to round out the rough edges of this roster.
