Hendon Hooker injury updates: Latest news on Detroit Lions QB's status image

The Detroit Lions have been hit with the injury bug lately, with quarterback Hendon Hooker being one of many to be in question.

Hooker made his preseason debut last week against the New York Giants but was not able to finish after sustaining a concussion during his second and final drive of the game. But there's some good news to share on Wednesday.

According to head coach Dan Campbell during an interview on 97.1 The Ticket, he revealed that Hooker actually has a "good chance" to play in the preseason Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

Adding to that, it appears he's going to practice on Wednesday.

This is huge news for Hooker, who is competing for the backup quarterback job with veteran Nate Sudfeld. The Lions recently added another quarterback in Jake Fromm, who is likely just insurance in the event Hooker can't go.

The second-year signal-caller had an impressive debut in preseason Week 1, finishing 5-of-9 for 36 yards while also adding 34 yards on the ground. It wasn't a perfect game for him by any means, but he did outplay Sudfeld to help his cause for the spot behind starter Jared Goff.

Hooker flashed his wheels and toughness as a runner during the contest, but that might have also led to his suffering the concussion. The Tennessee product will have to be more careful when he takes off with the football moving forward.
