Giants' Malik Nabers makes emphatic statement on injury status for Week 1 image

New York Giants star rookie Malik Nabers is currently dealing with a mild ankle sprain, but there's optimism it won't be a long-term injury.

In fact, the No. 6 overall pick made an emphatic statement to reporters about his status for the Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Nabers said Tuesday he has no doubt he'll be ready for the start of the season.

"No doubt," Nabers said. "I'm feeling good. I don't think it's really anything too serious though."

That would be a major sigh of relief for both the Giants and the fanbase. Nabers might be the most important piece to the offense outside of quarterback Daniel Jones.

The rookie wideout has already shown off his electric skillset from the joint training camp practices with the Detroit Lions, and he displayed pristine route runner in the preseason opener — though he didn't receive any targets during his limited snaps.

What Nabers means for the Giants offense cannot be understated. The alpha presence he brings to a vital position will lead to an extremely heavy target share, and his skillset alone can help the offense jump a tier or two.

The Giants are right to be cautious with Nabers and this ankle injury. Rushing him back for the preseason won't be worth it if it leads to further injury down the road.

But if it was up to Nabers, he'll be in the lineup on Sept. 8 when the Giants host the Vikings at MetLife Stadium.
