When NFL quarterbacks make a mistake, their team-issued Microsoft Surface tablets often take the brunt of the frustration on the sidelines.

Such was the case on Thursday night when Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw a costly INT in the fourth quarter of Seattle's 36-24 loss vs. the 49ers

Smith and the Seahawks were trying to mount a comeback, trailing by six points while deep in their own territory with under 10 minutes remaining.

Smith tried to force a pass to DK Metcalf over the middle, but it was picked off by 49ers cornerback Renardo Green, giving San Francisco prime field possession to put the game away.

When Smith saw the footage of the interception on the sidelines, he took his anger out on the tablet.

Smith was trying to lead the Seahawks on a comeback drive, trailing their NFC West division rival 49ers by six points with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Seattle was pinned on its own three-yard line after a deep punt from San Francisco's Mitch Wishnowsky, but Smith bought his offense a little bit of space with three completed passes. An offensive holding penalty backed up the Seahawks to their own 15-yard line, and Smith was trying to make something happen.

He forced a pass over the middle to Metcalf, but it was well underthrown, straight into the hands of 49ers corner Renardo Green. Green returned the ball to Seattle's 15-yard line, setting up an easy touchdown for the 49ers to put the game away.

When Smith went back to the sidelines to review the tape on the Microsoft Surface tablet, he was appalled by his own decision.

The Seahawks starting quarterback didn't just smash the tablet — he slammed it against his own head several times.

Surprisingly, Smith didn't injure himself with his ill-advised decision. He was able to finish the game, but his outburst was emblematic of the type of night it was for the Seahawks. DK Metcalf also had several bouts of anger and frustration throughout the game, even yelling into the sideline phone at one point, presumably at OC Ryan Grubb.

Geno Smith stats vs. 49ers

Smith completed 30 of his 52 pass attempts for 312 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, but it wasn't enough to beat San Francisco.

The Seahawks lost 36-24 and have now dropped three games in a row after starting 3-0.
