Both "Thursday Night Football" opponents needed a bounce-back win in Week 6, but it was the 49ers who came away with a momentum-shifting victory.

Just a week removed from a surprising 24-23 loss to the Cardinals, San Francisco's offense remained efficient in a 36-24 win over the Seahawks on Thursday. The 49ers initially had a 16-0 advantage to begin the matchup, but they needed some late-game scores to pull away for good.

As San Francisco's defense shut down Geno Smith in the first half, a 76-yard touchdown from Deebo Samuel and a trio of field goals from new kicker Matthew Wright gave the team a significant halftime lead. However, the home crowd in Seattle was rejuvenated after a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown from Laviska Shenault Jr. in the third quarter.

The Seahawks pulled within six as the fourth quarter approached, but the defending NFC champions put on a clinic from that point on. George Kittle snagged his second touchdown pass of the night, and a Kyle Juszczyk touchdown run with just over a minute remaining sealed the win for San Francisco.

The 49ers took over first place in the NFC West with the victory, now holding a win over their divisional opponent if there are any tiebreakers needed later in the season. Both teams figure to be in the playoff race as the season progresses.

By the end of the matchup, Smith threw 52 passes, completing 30 for 312 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Brock Purdy totaled 255 passing yards and three touchdowns, pushing his career TD-to-INT ratio on 'Thursday Night Football' to 8:1. He's now 4-0 lifetime on TNF and 4-0 vs. Seattle for his career. He's also 7-2 in regular-season prime-time games.

Now 3-3 this season, San Francisco regained some momentum as it approaches a massive contest against the Chiefs in Week 7. Seattle, meanwhile, has lost three consecutive games after opening the season with three consecutive wins.

49ers vs. Seahawks updates, highlights from Week 6 'Thursday Night Football' matchup

All times ET

11:26 p.m. Geno Smith's pass is incomplete on fourth down, and that wraps up the contest. The 49ers improve to 3-3, while the Seahawks fall to 3-3.

49ers 36, Seahawks 24

11:20 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Juszczyk runs it up the middle for a six-yard score, and that just about seals the deal in this one. The 49ers will claim a road win, which could be big for the future NFC West results.

11:17 p.m. — Guerendo breaks free down the right sideline for 76 yards, and he appeared to slide just as he was being tackled instead of scoring. The 49ers will continue to try running the clock out.

49ers 29, Seahawks 24

11:14 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — The Seahawks make it a one-score game once again, as Smith finds Lockett for a nine-yard touchdown. It's a five-point game with 1:44 remaining.

11:11 p.m. — Seattle is moving down the field still in need of two scores, but on 1st & Goal, Smith's pass to Lockett is incomplete, bringing the game to the two-minute warning.

11:05 p.m. — Smith found Metcalf downfield for a potential 52-yard touchdown, but it's wiped off the board after an illegal shift.

49ers 29, Seahawks 17

10:59 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — That might've been a game-winning sequence for the 49ers, as Green's interception leads to George Kittle's second touchdown of the night as he makes a physical grab in the middle of the end zone. The two-point try is no good, but the 49ers have a two-score lead with just over six minutes remaining.

10:54 p.m. — For the second time tonight, Geno Smith throws an interception. Renardo Green comes up huge for the 49ers with a turnover as Seattle had put together a few chunk plays. Now, San Francisco has the ball in the red zone.

10:49 p.m. — Neither offense can find much momentum right now. The 49ers punt, but they do get a good punt from Mitch Wishnowsky, which is downed at Seattle's three-yard line.

10:44 p.m. — Deebo Samuel left the game for a moment after he appeared to be injured, but he comes right back on the next play. Meanwhile, Purdy hits Brandon Aiyuk for 21 yards to move into Seattle territory.

10:39 p.m. — An illegal shift moves San Francisco back five yards to begin its drive, but Purdy finds Kyle Juszczyk for 13 yards and the 49ers pick up a first down shortly after.

10:34 p.m. — With an opportunity to take the lead on a touchdown drive, Seattle punts after Smith throws the ball away on 3rd & 10.

10:30 p.m. — The 49ers punt to begin the final frame.

End of third quarter: 49ers 23, Seahawks 17

10:24 p.m. — Purdy completes a seven-yard pass to Jauan Jennings on 3rd & 10 as the third quarter comes to a close.

49ers 23, Seahawks 17

10:17 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Kenneth Walker punches it in from a yard out, and the Seahawks are right back in the game at home. Shenault's kickoff return flipped the momentum.

10:15 p.m. — Seattle has 1st & Goal after back-to-back eight-yard plays from Metcalf and Walker.

10:12 p.m. — On 3rd & 8, Smith fires downfield to Tyler Lockett for a 37-yard play, moving Seattle into 49ers territory.

10:08 p.m. — An offensive holding call doomed the 49ers' next drive, and they punt. If the Seahawks can put together a touchdown drive, they'd make this a one-score game all of a sudden.

49ers 23, Seahawks 10

10:00 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Right when the Seahawks needed a major spark, they got one. Laviska Shenault Jr. takes the kickoff 97 yards to the house, giving Seattle its first touchdown of the game.

49ers 23, Seahawks 3

9:56 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Purdy hits Kittle in the front right corner of the end zone, and the 49ers have full command of this game. Two touchdowns and three field goals later, they've taken a 20-point lead on Seattle.

9:54 p.m. — Despite returning for a play, Mason went back to the 49ers' sideline and was seen stretching out his injured shoulder. Isaac Guerendo has been on the field, and a chunk play from George Kittle sets up San Francisco's offense nicely.

9:50 p.m. — As San Francisco begins the second half with the ball, Jordan Mason is back on the field.

9:43 p.m. — Brock Purdy finished the first half 9/14 with 139 passing yards and a touchdown. Geno Smith, meanwhile, is 9/18 with 109 passing yards and an interception.

Halftime: 49ers 16, Seahawks 3

9:35 p.m. FIELD GOAL— DK Metcalf came extremely close to getting his feet in for a touchdown on 3rd & Goal, but instead, Seattle settles for a field goal. It's the Seahawks' first points of the game, just as halftime hits.

9:31 p.m. — Make it three catches on this drive for Smith-Njigba, who picks up another 10 yards to put the Seahawks in their best scoring position of the night. However, time isn't on their side, as just around 20 seconds remain before halftime.

9:26 p.m. — After the two-minute warning, Geno Smith finds Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 19-yard catch, the receiver's first of the night.

49ers 16, Seahawks 0

9:21 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Wright is already up to three field goals in this game. The 49ers' offense slowed down over time on that drive, but they still take a dominant 16-0 advantage with another three points.

9:17 p.m. — The 49ers are chipping away on this drive, mostly using plays on the ground from Isaac Guerendo, Brock Purdy, and Deebo Samuel. San Francisco is inside the Seahawks' 15-yard line.

9:12 p.m. — Jordan Mason picks up 14 yards on the ground, moving him to 65 rushing yards on the day. But, he goes down with a left shoulder injury after the play, and he eventually heads back to the locker room.

9:06 p.m. — Geno Smith nearly erased a 2nd & 23 with a 15-yard completion to Zach Charbonnet and a 49ers penalty, but the quarterback's pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba is incomplete on third down. Seattle's offense continues to struggle, and the 49ers will take over.

49ers 13, Seahawks 0

9:02 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The 49ers don't move the ball much with their golden opportunity, but they do come away with another field goal. It's been a 10-point 49ers run in a matter of minutes.

8:57 p.m. — Things go from bad to worse for the Seahawks, as they fumble the ball away on the kickoff and give San Francisco's offense prime field position to build on its lead.

49ers 10, Seahawks 0

8:54 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — On the first play of the 49ers' drive, Purdy goes to his left and finds Deebo Samuel, who breaks free and sprints down the sideline to the end zone for a 76-yard touchdown.

8:52 p.m. — Fred Warner comes through to stuff Kenneth Walker on a potential first down, forcing Seattle to punt once again.

End of first quarter: 49ers 3, Seahawks 0

8:45 p.m. — San Francisco goes three-and-out despite a nine-yard catch from Jordan Mason on first down. As a quick first quarter comes to a close, Seattle will take over.

8:40 p.m. — The Seahawks nearly come through with another big third down play, but Smith is hit as he throws to Metcalf, who's surrounded by 49ers defenders. The ball falls incomplete, and Seattle punts.

8:38 p.m. — Smith connects with TE Noah Fant to convert on a 3rd & 2 as Seattle looks to find its first points.

49ers 3, Seahawks 0

8:32 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Seattle's defense bends but doesn't break, forcing a pair of incompletions from Purdy on the goal line. San Francisco still claims the game's first points, though, as Matthew Wright knocks a field goal through.

8:29 p.m. — Mason continues to run really well behind San Francisco's offensive line. He picks up 38 yards on a play up the middle, setting the 49ers up for an early score.

8:27 p.m. — Brock Purdy, Jordan Mason and Deebo Samuel each pick up some small gains on the ground, then Purdy hits Samuel for 11 yards through the air.

8:21 p.m. — For the fifth time this season, Geno Smith is picked off. Malik Mustapha comes away with the opening drive interception, but the 49ers' offense will now get the ball deep in its own territory.

8:19 p.m. — On 3rd & 6, Smith finds DK Metcalf for a 30-yard catch and run, pushing Seattle into 49ers territory early.

8:16 p.m. — This matchup is under way after Seattle receives the opening kickoff. Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense take the field.
