The Detroit Lions completed their mandatory minicamp this past week and are now on to the final days of organized team activities before they begin looking ahead to training camp.
Detroit was originally scheduled to host three more sessions of OTAs, but thanks to a rules violation last week, they have forfeited one of those practices, which was scheduled for Monday, June 10.
Now, the Lions will hold OTAs sessions on Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, before shutting it down for a month-plus ahead of training camp in late July.
Based on the observations of beat writers and our pair of biggest standouts articles (here and here), let's take a look at the Lions who helped their stocks the most at mandatory minicamp.
Lions who helped their stock
DL Levi Onwuzurike
Onwuzurike made two appearances in our biggest standouts articles. Not only did he notch a pair of pressures/sacks in two different sessions, he also drew some praise from head coach Dan Campbell for the work he's put in this offseason. Adding to that, he displayed some versatility after working on the edge a bit.
Onwuzurike was thought to be on the bubble this offseason, and while that might still be true, he no doubt helped his cause over the three-day event.
CB Terrion Arnold
Nothing has looked too big for Arnold so far this offseason, and he's routinely made plays during practice. The first-round pick looks primed to grab the No. 2 job opposite Carlton Davis, especially after seeing time there this past week.
WR Kaden Davis
The Lions have no shortage of question marks in their receiving corps. behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, so there's definitely a chance for an unexpected player to make the cut at the position. Keep an eye on Davis, who notched multiple touchdowns and made some impressive catches at minicamp.
CB Khalil Dorsey
Unfortunately, Dorsey's minicamp was cut short to do injury, but thankfully it isn't serious. Prior to his injury, Dorsey notched a pick-six in back-to-back days. It will be extremely difficult to break through in what is a very promising cornerbacks room in Detroit, but Davis helped his cause and even if he doesn't make the cut, he could catch the eye of another team or land on Detroit's practice squad.
K James Turner
We viewed Michael Badgley as the favorite to win the kicker competition over UDFA James Turner for obvious reasons, but Turner is, at the very least, giving the veteran a run for his money.
On Day 2 of minicamp, Turner bested Badgley, making two more kicks than his counterpart. That was at least the second time this offseason the rookie got the better of Badgley, with the other time coming during OTAs.
RB Sione Vaki
In what is a very competitive running backs room, Vaki has caught the eyes of beat writers because of his pass-catching abilities, displaying playmaking potential and good hands. Vaki will make the roster and have a special teams role in his first season, but perhaps he can take the No. 3 spot on the running backs depth chart.
