When the Detroit Lions signed defensive lineman D.J. Reader earlier this offseason in free agency, it was understood that his recovery from a torn quad would keep him out of offseason work, especially early on.
On Thursday before practice, head coach Dan Campbell gave an update on the veteran's recovery timeline, saying that Reader might not be ready to get on the field by the start of training camp next month.
Reader suffered the injury in Week 15 last season, and it's the second time he has torn his quad, with the first time coming in 2020 when he tore the one in his other leg.
Dan Campbell said DJ Reader is the only player on the roster not certain to be ready near the start of training camp, but the team expected that possibility when signing him.

The first torn quad didn't prevent Reader from being ready for the start of the 2021 season, but he also suffered the injury in Week 5 of the previous campaign.
As of now, there's no indication that this one will keep him out until after Week 1, but that will become more and more possible the more time he misses at training camp.
Cornerback Khalil Dorsey suffered an injury near the end of practice on Wednesday that led to him being carted off the field. Thankfully, it isn't serious, according to Campbell, who noted the injury is to Dorsey's ankle.
Lions got good news on Khalil Dorsey, who went down at the end of yesterday's practice. Sounds like it's just a minor ankle injury.

The injury comes at a bad time for Dorsey, who had recorded a pick-six in back-to-back practices. We'll see if he can get back on the field by the time the Lions wrap up OTAs next week, but if not the next time we'll see him is in training camp.
