DeForest Buckner injury update: Latest news on Indianapolis Colts veteran image

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner suffered an ankle injury during the second half of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Buckner entered the game questionable with a back injury after not practicing all week and even though he played limited snaps to begin with, the Colts are likely to be without their star defensive tackle.

During a play in the third quarter, Buckner made a tackle, but his ankle was caught underneath his body. Buckner's ankle was twisted very awkwardly.

Buckner was ruled out of the game near the end of the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.

The veteran defender couldn't put any weight on his right ankle and struggled to walk off the field with trainers under each arm. He tried to get off the bench but had to immediately sit back down.

Buckner then was carted to the locker room halfway through the fourth quarter.

DeForest Buckner injury update

The latest update Monday morning from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is that Buckner suffered an ankle sprain that makes him a long shot to play in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears.

However, it seems Buckner avoided a major injury. The X-rays came back negative and the sprain is not considered a severe one, per Rapoport.

Losing Buckner for any amount of time is a massive deal for the Colts. They don't have the depth behind him to make an impact, which means they will have to rely on Taven Bryan and Adetomiwa Adebawore.

The Colts need to stack wins now more than ever after starting 0-2, and Buckner's absence will hurt that cause in a major way.
