Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was slicing his way through the Green Bay Packers defense during Sunday's 16-10 loss at Lambeau Field.
Taylor went over the 100-yard mark at the end of the third quarter with several explosive runs after being stifled earlier in the game.
However, Taylor was on the bench to begin the fourth quarter when the Colts faced a critical 3rd-and-1. The Colts failed to convert on an option with Trey Sermon in the backfield. They settled for a 50-yard field-goal attempt, which Matt Gay missed.
Taylor didn't log a single carry or target during the fourth quarter while the Colts opted to use Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson in the backfield instead.
He told reporters after the game that he's not dealing with an injury so it was a coach's decision to keep him off the field in the fourth quarter.
Taylor had seven carries for 66 yards in the third quarter before his surprising benching.
Even if the Colts truly believe Sermon and Goodson are better options during passing situations, keeping one of the offense's most explosive pieces out of the game plan for four consecutive drives in the fourth quarter is a baffling decision.
We'll see if any more information about this comes out, but this was a move that will be heavily scrutinized.
