The Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb have agreed on a four-year, $136 million extension, making him the second-highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The contract extension also includes a $38 million signing bonus, the highest for a receiver in NFL history.
And while both sides eventually were able to shake hands on a deal, it didn’t come without compromise.
According to Ari Meirov, the Cowboys initially were aiming to sign Lamb to a deal in the range of five-to-six years in length. The star receiver preferred a three-year deal. Eventually, the two sides agreed to meet in the middle to a four-year contract that will keep him in Dallas for the long-term future.
The star receiver is coming off one of the most productive seasons in history, catching 135 passes for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning First-Team All-Pro honors for his efforts. It’s no wonder that Dallas wanted to keep Lamb in a Cowboys uniform for such a long period of time. However, it does make sense from a player’s perspective to try and get one more favorable contract before his playing days are over. Both sides should be happy that this is behind them as they head into the regular season, and this also will allow the Cowboys to focus solely on what’s next for Dak Prescott.
