The madness continues.
The New York Jets are still without edge rusher Haason Reddick due to a contract holdout, and that doesn't appear ready to change anytime soon. Reddick, who refuses to show up for work, apparently had a falling out with the agency representing him.
On Thursday evening, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has "parted ways with New York's holdout pass rusher." So, apparently even CAA was fed up with Reddick's antics.
Losing an agent in the middle of a contract dispute isn't a good sign of what's to come. Reddick will need to quickly find new representation if he genuinely hopes to settle his beef with the Jets prior to Week 11.
It seems as if the New Jersey native has no true intentions of ever playing for the Jets. He has already incurred approximately $5 million in fines for his failure to report to the team while missing out on $4 million in salary.
After the Philadelphia Eagles traded their 2023 sacks leader to the Jets in late March, Reddick attended an introductory press conference and then nothing else. The two-time Pro Bowler skipped out on voluntary OTAs, mandatory minicamp and training camp.
New York general manager Joe Douglas has made it known that the team will not negotiate with a player until that player is in the building. There was a thought that the Jets would soften their stance once defensive end Jermaine Johnson was lost for the season with an Achilles tear.
Team owner Woody Johnson answered a question about Reddick with an impassioned plea to the talented edge rusher on Tuesday.
"Haason get in your car, drive down I-95 and come to the New York Jets. We can meet you and give you an escort right in the building and you will fit right in," said Johnson.
It's unclear how soon, if ever, that will happen. There are no active negotiations, and now there's no agent to kick-start them.
