New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is making progress from a scary ankle injury he suffered during practice last week.

After being carted off the field with an air cast last week, it was revealed that Tracy suffered an ankle sprain. It was surprising considering the nature in which Tracy left practice.

The Giants held him out of the preseason game against the Houston Texans as a precaution, but the rookie is back practicing already.

Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed to reporters Tuesday that Tracy will return to practice in some form Tuesday.

The fifth-round pick was quickly climbing the depth chart before the injury. With Devin Singletary entrenched as the starter, Tracy was leading the battle for the No. 2 role in the backfield.

With second-year back Eric Gray as his main competition, Tracy has a chance to carve out a serious role during his rookie campaign.

It will be interesting to see whether Tracy will play in the preseason finale against the New York Jets, but this is encouraging progress regardless.
