The New York Giants restructured the contract of star left tackle Andrew Thomas, opening up a bit more space with the salary cap.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Giants converted $4.175 million of Thomas' base salary into a signing bonus, which created $3.34 million cap space for the 2024 season.

With this restructure, the Giants reportedly are now operating with roughly $18 million in salary-cap space, which is still in the bottom half of the league entering the season.

Thomas signed a massive five-year contract extension worth $117.5 million during the 2023 offseason. Converting part of his base salary this season is a housekeeping move — likely to help rollover a bit more cap to 2025.

Thomas is the leader of an offensive line that desperately needs to bounce back in 2024. With questions surrounding the future of the quarterback position, the Giants offensive line must improve in pass protection to give the front office a chance to see whether Daniel Jones is the future.

Staying healthy will be the biggest objective for Thomas considering his All-Pro caliber talent when he's on the field.
