Marshon Lattimore injury update: Latest news on New Orleans Saints CB in Week 3 image

The New Orleans Saints appeared to get some good news on the Taysom Hill injury front ahead of the Week 3 encounter with the Philadelphia Eagles.

That appears to be the similar thinking for star cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who missed the first two games of the season due to a hamstring injury.

Early this week, Lattimore returned to practice, though both early injury reports saw him listed as a “limited” participant. That, in the wake of Saints head coach Dennis Allen holding him out of the Week 2 win over the Dallas Cowboys in order to avoid worsening what is usually a tricky type of injury.

At this point, it makes sense for the Saints to go slow with Lattimore, to the point he could even be on a pitch count in Week 3. A hip flexor derailed some of his training camp. Over the last two seasons combined, he’s played in just 17 games, too.

On paper, the Saints could use Lattimore in the starting lineup, especially in a marquee matchup against a high-flying offense like the one belonging to the Eagles. But one could have written the same thing last week before the 44-19 thumping of the Dallas Cowboys, in which the Saints defense held Dak Prescott to under 300 yards passing on 39 attempts and picked him off twice while also limiting Dallas rushers to 3.2 yards per carry.

Even if Lattimore doesn't see many snaps in Week 3, the Saints could benefit from playing the long-game by keeping him fresh and healthy with an eye on the next few months after the undefeated start.
