The New England Patriots fell to the Tua Tagovailoa-less Miami Dolphins 15-10 in a winnable game on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

New England's offense continues to be hard to watch each week, as they're passing game is virtually non-existent with Jacoby Brissett completing just 52.9% of his passes for 160 yards (46, of which, came on the final possession).

The Patriots have third-overall pick Drake Maye waiting to take over as the starting quarterback at some point this year, and while head coach Jerod Mayo has often used his Monday morning press conferences to prop up Brissett, that wasn't exactly the case this week.

“[Brissett's play] just wasn’t good enough,” Mayo said. “I thought we played well enough defensively and on special teams to win the football game. As the quarterback, and he understands this, he touches the ball on every single play, and we didn’t win the game or score enough points to win the game. I think he would echo that same sentiment, that it wasn’t good enough.”

New England has been pretty consistent with their messaging that Maye would start at some point in his rookie season, but the exact game has been unknown.

However, if they keep losing games like that with poor quarterback performances, they risk losing the locker room. Everyone in there is trying to earn their next contract or make a name for themselves, and it becomes much more difficult to do that if the quarterback isn't doing well.

The Patriots take on the Houston Texans next Sunday at Gillette Stadium, and they could be taking the field with a new quarterback that could spark something.
