New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett has taken a beating through the first four weeks of the season, as he's been pressured more than any other quarterback in the NFL.
As a result, New England's offense has struggled, averaging the second-fewest points per game and the fewest yards.
While the Patriots have third-overall pick Drake Maye waiting to take over the starting job in the near future, many Patriots fans and media members are hesitant to put him out there behind this offensive line.
Earlier in the week, Brissett was asked during his weekly WEEI radio appearance if he thought it was disrespectful that fans and media members are OK with him playing behind the line but not Maye and the veteran quarterback agreed.
“It is (disrespectful)," Brissett said. "But, at the same time, it’s like, a lot of those people don’t know me... (but) why waste my time to worry about the people that say those things... I just block it out.”
Brissett's point is a sound one because it feels like no one cares about his health or about protecting him throughout the season. But, at the same time, this was the job that he was brought in for. He was going to play until the situation was right for Maye to take over, and at this point, it's hard to argue that Maye would benefit from playing behind this line.
