After five horrific offensive performances, the New England Patriots benched veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett and turned the ball over to rookie first-round pick Drake Maye.
Maye looked decent in his debut, completing 60.6% of his passes for 243 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble on a strip-sack.
He was also the team's leading rusher, totaling 38 yards on the ground (more than Antonio Gibson's 19, Terrell Jennings' 13 and JaMycal Hasty's 12).
While there were plenty of rookie mistakes and miscues that Maye will certainly work on as he gets more time on the practice field and on game days, there's a lot to build on after this game.
New England's content team did everyone the favor of putting together a quick video of every single one of Maye's pass attempts and rushes to encapsulate his day on their YouTube channel.
Take a look:
If the Patriots can get some pieces (an offensive line and pass-patchers) around Maye, this team could make some noise. However, at this point, it would take an incredible run by the rookie quarterback to bring this team back to a respectable level in 2024.
