The New England Patriots made a concerted effort this offseason to reward some of their own guys with extensions to start to build the next core group under new head coach Jerod Mayo.
On Friday, New England added a new addition to this group, as they've agreed to a three-year extension with special teams ace Brenden Schooler, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The deal is reportedly worth $9 million (up to $10.5 million with incentives) with $3.6 million guaranteed.
2024 was the final year of Schooler's rookie deal after he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022 out of Texas. However, he was set to be a restricted free agent this upcoming offseason.
Now, New England keeps around their gunner, who has done a terrific job learning from Matthew Slater and taking over for him in their first year without him.
Schooler already has five tackles in five games this season, and he blocked a punt last week against the Miami Dolphins.
