Odell Beckham Jr. injury update: Latest news as Miami Dolphins WR nears return image

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is nearing a possible injury return window at a crucial time for the team.

Beckham, who started the season on the physically unable to perform list, is eligible to return starting next week.

From the sounds of comments by head coach Mike McDaniel, via PFT’s Mike Florio, things are trending in that direction: “I’ve seen some good progress, and I’m optimistic for when his window opens up and we will see how his body responds. I do know there’s been some very intentional good work and that he hasn’t had the setbacks that we’ve made sure to avoid.”

Then again, it has been near-impossible to get a true read on what is going on with Beckham, who hasn’t really practiced with the team at all since signing his deal.

Beckham apparently had an offseason procedure that the Dolphins knew about when they signed him to be the big third in a trio with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins later suggested that Beckham himself hadn’t wanted to start the season on the PUP list.

Miami can technically open the 21-day window for Beckham to begin practicing with the team next week. Things have gone off the rails for the offense over the first three weeks, though, with Tua Tagovailoa’s latest injury and calls for a recent former practice squad acquisition to start under center for the 1-2 team.

At this point, it’s hard to say how much help the 31-year-old veteran who has yet to rep within the offense can provide, but some is better than none. Of note, though, is that the Dolphins do have a Week 6 bye, should they want to keep taking it slow with Beckham’s anticipated return and eventual debut.
