The Miami Dolphins have some options at the quarterback position if Tua Tagovailoa doesn’t return and Skylar Thompson isn’t doing enough to keep them in contention.

But here’s one fans probably haven’t heard—Russell Wilson.

Wilson, the presumed starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers, currently remains on the shelf with an injury. But that didn’t stop ESPN’s Dan Graziano, from listing him as a possible fit for the Dolphins at the trade deadline:

“OK, here's one with potential instant impact. Wilson (calf) is too hurt to play right now, and by the time he's healthy, there's a non-zero chance Justin Fields will have secured the starting job in Pittsburgh full time. If that happens, would the Steelers move Wilson to a desperate team with an injured QB looking to save its season?”

There are a few hiccups with the idea, of course. Wilson is 35 and, over the last two years in Denver, had those so-so showings. Plus, the Steelers might want to keep him close because Mike Tomlin and Co. are 2-0 in a messy AFC North. Justin Fields has thrown just one touchdown pass over 43 attempts so far, while the offense has rushed 77 times, so the coaching staff wanting a quarterback change certainly isn’t out of the question.

And yet…Wilson is admittedly a savvy veteran who might be able to work within the confines of Mike McDaniels’ offense well and quickly. That’s especially the case with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and potentially even Odell Beckham Jr. eventually working as his weapons.

Making this a little likelier than most trade buzz suggestions is the presence of Wilson’s no-trade clause. If he gets word from Pittsburgh that he won’t be a starter, he would presumably at least pick a possible contender like Miami, if at all.

Again, it's unlikely, but it does go to show that the Dolphins have options, especially while Taogvailoa remains on injured reserve with little in the way of new news about his outlook. More dramatic than adding Tyler Huntley, yes, but wilder things have happened in the NFL.
