The Los Angeles Chargers used their first-round pick in last year's draft on TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston. This offseason, the coaching staff has praised him any chance it has gotten. But any time fans have had the chance to see him in action, it seems to be the opposite.
So where does he stand on this roster?
If you ask Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, it could be on the roster of another team. Recently, Benjamin discussed players who could still be dealt before the season starts and Johnston is on that list. He names the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots as potential fits for last year's 21st overall pick.
Could the Chargers trade Quentin Johnston?
All offseason, critics have discussed how weak the Chargers are at wide receiver. If that is true, and Johnston is unable to stand out in that group, it might not be a bad idea to search for a deal.
Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh, now the guys running the show in L.A., had nothing to do with Johnston going in the first round last year. While you never want to give up on a high draft pick that soon, it's easier when there's no attachment.
If he's not going to be any better than the No. 4 wide receiver, trading him to another team while there is at least still some perceived value is probably the better route. If Johnston is behind the likes of Joshua Palmer, Ladd McConkey and D.J. Chark and he has another quiet season, his value going forward will be next to nothing.
