Teams around the league are looking at every option when it comes to the best way to get their rosters down to 53 players ahead of the league deadline which this year falls on August 29 at 1:00 pm PT.
Between now and then, you can expect to see a flurry of moves around the league and some trades could take place, such as the one that saw Matthew Judon join the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round pick.
The Los Angeles Chargers could think about a trade as well and running back Isaiah Spiller is a player who has often been connected to trade talks.
The sky seemed the limit for Spiller when the Chargers drafted him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft but to this point, the team hasn't been a good fit for him. So what if the Chargers were to send him to a team in need of a running back rather than just waive him?
Take a look at this trade idea:
Chargers get: DL Roy Robertson-Harris
Jaguars get: RB Isaiah Spiller, 2025 6th-round pick
The Chargers give up the younger player and a future draft pick here but they get some proven production at a position of need in return.
Roy Robertson-Harris was undrafted in 2016 but has stuck in the league for eight seasons with the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars due to his consistency. He has played in every regular season game in each of the last two seasons and has 17 sacks and nearly 200 total tackles in his career.
Chargers sending Spiller to Jacksonville for defensive lineman a win for both sides
The Jaguars are not deep at running back behind starter Travis Etienne, so there could be interest. The Chargers don't have much in the way of proven depth along the defensive line and looking at the roster as a whole, it appears to be the weak spot of the team.
Pulling off a trade like this one makes perfect sense for this time of year. Robertson-Harris will most likely make the team in Jacksonville but he wouldn't see a lot of playing time outside of a player getting injured due to the depth chart in front of him.
Spiller could easily be waived as part of final cuts and if we're honest, that seems likely right now especially given the emergence of Jaret Patterson this summer.
This trade would work for both sides.
