The Los Angeles Chargers are concluding their final week of OTAs, the first under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, offensive tackle was not seen as a "need" for this team, but that didn't stop the front office from using the No. 5 overall selection on tackle Joe Alt.
That led to an immediate question concerning Trey Pipkins, the team's third-round pick in 2019 who has been playing the right tackle spot. Looking to maximize the talent of the group, Pipkins has been slotted in at one of the guard spots.
Now, we have gotten a glimpse of what could be the Week 1 starting offensive line for this team.
That sure looks like Trey Pipkins at right guard 👀

This is the combination I expected to see. If Salyer/Pipkins can battle all camp, that position will get better with whomever ends up winning it. https://t.co/7TW5qhRKDQ
Los Angeles Chargers starting offensive line could be among best in the league
As noted by Eric Smith of the team's official website, the Chargers used the same five offensive linemen for every snap Justin Herbert took in Tuesday's session. That could be of major note for this team. The group looked like this:
OT- Rashawn Slater
G- Zion Johnson
C- Bradley Bozeman
G- Trey Pipkins
OT- Joe Alt
That has every chance to be a fantastic group and with the emphasis that Harbaugh puts on his offensive line, it could be as good as any in pro football.
The wild card will be Pipkins. If he transitions well to the guard spot, look out. If not, he could be considered trade bait before the season officially kicks off.
