Los Angeles Chargers should call 49ers over disgruntled wide receiver

The Los Angeles Chargers found a popular new head coach this offseason, but the other big story surrounding the team has been its rebuilding of the wide receiver room.

Gone are Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. The team will now take a new approach under Jim Harbaugh, building the trenches and strengthening the running game the way a Harbaugh team has traditionally done. The wide receivers Justin Herbert now has to work with are Josh Palmer, Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and D.J. Chark, among others.

But the thought that is out there is that the team needs more and perhaps that includes a proven option for Herbert to get the ball to. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk continues to be at odds with the team and has now claimed that they don't want him back.

The longer this goes on, the more likely that the 49ers and Aiyuk are going to part ways. Could the Chargers be an option for him if that were to happen?

The 49ers likely won't sell him cheap, but it's certainly worth checking in on. The Chargers were constantly connected to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins but now that he has agreed to sign his franchise tag, that seems to be off the table.

The Chargers may be completely satisfied with their wide receiver situation but if they do want to make a big splash and give Herbert an excellent option to work with, a call to the 49ers may be worth making.
