Much has been made about the Los Angeles Chargers doing enough to help the wide receiver position ahead of the 2024 season, but there could be similar concerns at tight end.
Despite the team signing two tight ends in free agency, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report would have the team taking Brock Bowers in the first round of a re-draft from this past spring's draft.
The Chargers have the guys they have and the free-agent market is basically dry. They are going to have to get production from somewhere after losing Gerald Everett to free agency.
Los Angeles Chargers tight end depth chart ahead of training camp
1. Hayden Hurst
The No. 1 and No. 2 guy on this list could be flipped depending on who you ask, but Hayden Hurst is a little more versatile as a down-field threat for Justin Herbert.
2. Will Dissly
Will Dissly is not going to do anything to surprise you, but he is a veteran option that can carry defenders and break tackles once the ball is in his hands.
3. Donald Parham
The longest-tenured Chargers tight end on this roster, Donald Parham will offer what he's always offered, which is a big option in the red zone. That should be enough to get him at least one more season in L.A.
4. Stone Smartt
Undrafted in 2022, Stone Smartt has made the team each of the last two seasons but has just 15 career receptions. He doesn't figure to be any bigger piece of the offense this year either.
5. Zach Heins
Zach Heins has some appeal as an undrafted player this year. He's a huge target at 6-foot-7 but he has a lot of experience in front of him on the depth chart.
6. Luke Benson
Another undrafted free agent who played for both Syracuse and Georgia Tech in college. He never caught more than 10 passes in any season.
