The Los Angeles have completely revamped their wide receiver room this offseason. Gone are Keenan Allen and Mike Williams and in are guys like Ladd McConkey, D.J. Chark and Brenden Rice. But one name has been hardly talked about.
Recently, Gennaro Filice of NFL.com named the most underrated player on each NFL roster and when looking at the Chargers, he identified wide receiver Josh Palmer. After a big year in 2022 that saw him catch 72 passes, big things were expected from Palmer last year. But a knee injury landed him on injured reserve, limited him to 10 games and he caught just 38 passes.
Back at 100 percent, he should be ready to have an impactful year for the Chargers in 2024.
Josh Palmer is Los Angeles Chargers' most underrated player
Justin Herbert isn't the only one who's been hamstrung by the @chargers' mostly risk-averse passing games. Josh Palmer, seen here cooking (sorry) Bryan Cook, has all kinds of deep-ball chops. Hopefully, Greg Roman will be the one to exploit them. pic.twitter.com/H2DbINwxN9

But this year, he should be counted upon to be a big part of the Chargers' passing game. With Allen and Williams gone, Palmer is the receiver most familiar with quarterback Justin Herbert. Big things will be expected out of the new names that the team brought in, but Herbert will likely look to the guy he has thrown to the most on this current roster as often as he can.
With Quentin Johnston struggling through his rookie season and McConkey still being a rookie himself, it's within reason to view Palmer as the No. 1 option right now. Filice is correct in his findings as Palmer is severely underrated within what could be a high-powered offense this season.
