The Los Angeles Chargers have gone to the bargain basement once more, looking for a veteran player who can help the cause in 2024. With some issues with injuries at cornerback, the Chargers have gone out and signed a former first-round pick.
Eli Apple, drafted in the first round of the 2016 draft by the New York Giants, is the newest member of the team. He will start on the practice squad but will be ready to be elevated to the main roster at any time this season. Apple has played for the Giants, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins.
For his career, Apple has made 371 tackles with six interceptions and 60 pass defenses. Most importantly, he's made 82 career starts.

The Chargers were already forced to place Asante Samuel Jr. on injured reserve. Ja'Sir Taylor was unable to suit up on Sunday against the Denver Broncos and Deane Leonard tweaked his hamstring during the game and was unable to return. The Chargers needed more depth and Apple will fit in nicely.
Apple most recently played for the Dolphins, signing with the team to help compensate for the loss of Jalen Ramsey following a knee injury. He made four starts for the team last season and had 46 tackles and an interception. He is still only 29 years old.
Look for the Chargers to have Apple ready to go soon, perhaps even as early as next Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals.
