Los Angeles Chargers: 3 players whose stock is up, 3 players whose stock is down at bye week image

The Los Angeles Chargers have played four games and have hit the bye week this season, one of four teams getting the week off in Week 5. The team started hot by winning its first two games before stumbling and losing the next two.

There is still plenty to be optimistic about surrounding this team, but major injuries are threatening to throw the season into a tailspin. The rest is much-needed and the team will have a chance to bounce back in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos. Before then, let's review some of the players from the first four games of this season.

At the bye week, here is a stock report for six Chargers players.

Los Angeles Chargers stock up, stock down at bye week

Stock Up: J.K. Dobbins, RB

J.K. Dobbins came roaring out of the gate to start the season, posting back-to-back games with 130+ rushing yards against the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers. He took a big step back in the next two games, both losses, but the start of his season is still highly encouraging.

The Chargers need to continue to give him chances and when Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt return to the lineup healthy, he will have the chance to have a big second half of the season.

Stock Down: Gus Edwards, RB

While Dobbins has been great, Gus Edwards has been all but useless. For the season, Edwards has rushed for 113 yards on 38 carries. He has just nine total carries in the last two games as the Chargers seem to be realizing that it seems like he's running through the mud every time he gets the ball.

Edwards was signed before Dobbins in free agency and considered the team's No. 1 running back this offseason, but he should be relegated to a goal line or short-yardage role at best. It's time for the team to plug the rookie Kimani Vidal in to see what he has to offer.

Stock Up: Quentin Johnston, WR

Chargers wide receivers are not posting huge numbers in the passing game, as this team is just not constructed that way. But Quentin Johnston, a player who took a lot of criticism as a rookie and had that spill into training camp, has had a good first month in 2024.

He has already found the end zone three times in four games, surpassing his touchdown total from last season.

Stock Down: Joshua Palmer, WR

Joshua Palmer was viewed as the team's No. 1 wide receiver this offseason but he has dealt with injuries and been largely ineffective since the regular season kicked off.

Palmer missed one game due to injury but in the three games he's played, he has a total of seven receptions for 70 yards. Those aren't close to WR1 numbers.

Stock Up: Daiyan Henley, LB

Daiyan Henley has stepped up in year two with the Chargers and through four games, is the team's leading tackler with 35 total stops. He has two tackles for loss and one pass deflection and is quietly becoming one of the most consistent players on defense.

Stock Down: Junior Colson, LB

Injuries have marred the start of Junior Colson's career as he missed time in training camp and he has missed the team's last two games while being hurt. He played in the first two games of the season, collecting five tackles.

There is still plenty to be excited about with Colson, the team's third-round pick this year, but some patience is likely going to be needed from fans as his rookie season could be a quiet one.
