The Jim Harbaugh era kicks off in Los Angeles on Sunday when the Chargers welcome the Las Vegas Raiders into SoFi Stadium. It's a classic AFC West rivalry and both teams are looking to start the season on the right foot.
Harbaugh and the Chargers saw a mixed bag during the preseason. The team was without starting quarterback Justin Herbert for much of training camp due to a plantar fascia injury, which gave the team a more detailed look at the backup quarterback position than it was likely anticipating.
How will the Bolts start the 2024 season? Take a look at these bold predictions and see how many you agree with.
Los Angeles Chargers Week 1 bold predictions
J.K. Dobbins crosses the 100-yard barrier
The Chargers will instill the Harbaugh philosophy right off the bat this season, which means running the ball early and often. Though the team plans to split carries between Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, Dobbins will make the biggest impact.
Dobbins has had to sit and wait for his chance to showcase his skills on the field and quiet the naysayers who feel he's too injury-prone to be an effective NFL running back anymore. He gets off to a big start on Sunday.
Bold prediction: J.K. Dobbins rushes for 100+ yards
Two rookies make an instant impact
The Chargers had what most felt was a terrific draft this spring and it will start to pay dividends right away.
Two rookies on offense — Ladd McConkey and Kimani Vidal — will make big plays in this game.
McConkey could end up being Herbert's top option in the passing game this season and he will start his career by being the reception monster most expect him to be. And while Vidal will likely see limited touches, at least to start the year, he will find the end zone in game one.
Bold prediction: Ladd McConkey has 7+ receptions and Kimani Vidal scores a TD
Chargers defense sets the tone
The Raiders could be ugly offensively this season and that starts with their quarterback situation, where Gardner Minshew will start for the team. The Chargers have a chance to have one of the better defenses in all of football if they stay healthy and with players like Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Derwin James, Asante Samuel and Junior Colson on the field in this game, they are going to make life difficult for the Raiders on Sunday.
Bold prediction: Chargers defenses forces at least 3 Raiders turnovers
