The 2024 Los Angeles Chargers are looking to put a stamp on the league as a team to watch in the future, but some players won't be part of that process for long.
The NFL is a business and that's just the way things work. Players who are again, in the final year of their contract, or both, are often recycled for younger, cheaper options. While these players could help the Chargers this season in establishing themselves as a future force in the NFL, their stay could be up at season's end.
Here are some players who may very well not be wearing a Chargers jersey next season.
3 players who won't be with Chargers beyond 2024 season
Khalil Mack, Edge
Khalil Mack is one of the best players on the Chargers' defense, but he is also in the final year of his contract and will turn 34 years old next February.
He could still have some productive years left in him, but what is that going to cost if the team signs him to a new deal? If Tuli Tuipolotu takes a big step this year and improves upon his great rookie season, the Chargers could easily be convinced to move on from Mack in the offseason.
Denzel Perryman, Linebacker
Denzel Perryman is in his second stint with the Chargers but the team's lack of depth at inside linebacker was what prompted the team to bring him back, but it was only on a one-year deal.
Third-round pick Junior Colson and Daiyan Henley are the future of the team at this position, so Perryman will act as that veteran leader and coach on the field for the younger guys. He is on the other side of 30 years old and could easily be gone after this season.
Easton Stick, Quarterback
Truthfully, Easton Stick should not even make it through this season on the roster but if he does, he is an unrestricted free agent at season's end. He has made a decent career for himself as a guy carrying a clipboard and helping the team with film study, but on the field, he has left much to be desired.
The Chargers traded for Taylor Heinicke, a much better backup QB, and Stick's days with the team should be numbered as a result.
