Just as we were getting all set for the 2024 NFL season to begin with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens, mother nature has interfered.
Heavy downpours of rain and lightning in the area have made players from both sides, as well as fans, seek cover. The players went back into their respective locker rooms, and fans cleared the stands to escape the elements.
According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, a weather delay is very possible and could push back the start time of the Week 1 opener.
"Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. but I’m hearing there will be a delay due to warmups being held up," Derrick said via X. "The Chiefs kick returners had just come on the field. Delay of 20-30 minutes possible but no official timeline yet."
Weather has already been a big factor this football season at the college level, as a weather delay kept Penn State and West Virginia from beginning the second half of their game last Saturday for over two hours. Maybe it's just time to put every team inside a dome. It's an unpopular opinion, I know, but this type of thing would never be a factor.
