Colts showed interest in trading for All-Pro wide receiver, per insider image

The Indianapolis Colts targeted a big name this offseason in a potential trade this offseason.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, they had "some level of interest" in trading for All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets were interested, as well.

Schefter noted that the Minnesota Vikings had "zero interest" in trading Jefferson and declined all inquiries.

Jefferson is one of the most prolific playmakers in the NFL. In 2022, he recorded 128 receptions for 1,809 yards and eight touchdowns, en route to being named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Last season, he was limited to only 10 games, but still posted 68 receptions for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns.

The Colts do not have a big need at wide receiver. Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs make up a young, talented trio. However, Jefferson is a top-level player; he would instantly raise the team's ceiling.

Although the Colts did not land Jefferson, it still demonstrates the front office's willingness to make a big move to improve their roster. If another elite player becomes available, the Colts could be in the mix.

This upcoming offseason, the Colts will have approximately $55.5 million in cap space, per Spotrac.

Tee Higgins, Amari Cooper, Stefon Diggs, and Chris Godwin will headline a strong free-agent wide receiver class.

Meanwhile, edge rusher Haason Reddick and safety Jevon Holland are potential elite defensive options. With Anthony Richardson on his rookie contract, now is the time to take a big swing.
