Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco earned himself a nice paycheck following the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 39-year-old quarterback started the game on the bench as he has for the first three games of the season. However, his number was called when Anthony Richardson had to come out of the game due to a hip injury.
Though the Colts say Richardson could have come back into the game, they felt comfortable with Flacco taking the reins after he finished the second drive with a touchdown to go up 14-0.
Flacco wound up playing 80% of the snaps in the 27-24 win, which triggered an incentive in his contract worth $100,000.
Part of Flacco's contract includes per-game incentives, one of which is playing at least 50% of snaps in a game in which the Colts win.
The result of the Week 4 game is the exact reason why the Colts brought Flacco in during the offseason.
The veteran completed 16-of-26 passes (61.5%) for 168 yards, two touchdowns and a 105.9 passer rating. His +4.6% CPOE ranked ninth while his +0.24 EPA per dropback ranked seventh among NFL quarterbacks in Week 4, according to Next Gen Stats.
It remains to be seen whether Richardson will be able to play in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Colts will have a solid option with Flacco ready to go.
