The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Joe Flacco in free agency as the ideal backup option to Anthony Richardson.

Though Flacco's contract is only for one season, it is laced with incentives in the event he needs to step into the starting role.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, we now know what those incentives look like.

Colts QB Joe Flacco's contract incentives

Flacco's incentives are solely based on playing time, and they have increasing levels built in. There is a max of $3.7 million in total incentives.

Here's how the incentives break down for Flacco:

30% of snaps$250,000
40% of snaps$250,000
50% of snaps$250,000
60% of snaps$250,000
50% of snaps in a game + team wins$100,000 each ($1.7M max)
50% of snaps in playoff game + team wins$250,000 each ($1M max)

The Colts are hoping that Flacco won't have to see the field unless it's a blowout situation late in the game.

They weren't that lucky in 2023 during Richardson's rookie season. His season-ending shoulder injury in Week 5 led to Gardner Minshew playing the majority of snaps for the season.
