Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson entered the weekend with a questionable tag ahead of the Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Richardson suffered what was initially diagnosed as a hip pointer when he was tackled by two defenders late in the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.
Further tests revealed he had avoided a major injury and was dealing with an oblique strain. Even though head coach Shane Steichen told reporters earlier this week Richardson could play without practicing, he was still a limited participant in every practice this week.
Anthony Richardson injury update
While Richardson was listed as questionable on the final injury report Friday, the Colts announced Saturday afternoon that the second-year quarterback was downgraded to doubtful. He was then ruled out Sunday morning.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise considering Richardson gave way to Joe Flacco for the majority of first-team reps during Friday's practice.
With Richardson out, the Colts will once again turn to Flacco to lead them in a road game against the Jaguars, a place they haven't won since 2014.
Flacco entered the game in Week 4 during the fourth quarter. He completed 16-of-26 passes for 168 yards, two touchdowns and a 105.9 passer rating.
The Colts also downgraded center Ryan Kelly (neck) to doubtful after he failed to log a practice this week.
