Jonathan Taylor injury update: Latest news on Colts star RB in Week 5 image

The Indianapolis Colts are preparing to be without star running back Jonathan Taylor as he deals with a high-ankle sprain.

After being awkwardly tackled during the fourth quarter of the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Taylor was diagnosed with a mild high-ankle sprain.

Given his history of ankle injuries in recent seasons, this certainly causes some concern for his availability against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 and even beyond.

Taylor was ruled out for the Week 5 game against the Jaguars on Friday after failing to log a single practice throughout the week.

Also on Friday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Taylor is expected to miss some time.

"My understanding is that it's a mild sprain but likely to miss some time, and it would be a surprise if he was able to get on the field at this time," Rapoport said.

The star running back has enjoyed a strong start to the season with 72 carries for 349 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns through the first four games this season.

With Taylor out for the game against the Jaguars, the Colts will likely lean on Trey Sermon as the lead back while Tyler Goodson mixes in on passing downs. Evan Hull also could be called up from the practice squad.

Whether Taylor can suit up for another division game in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans (1-3) on the road remains to be seen.
