The 2024 NFL schedule release has become a big deal. As too has the flow of information that comes from it.

Travel is immediately something that is considered when the schedule is released as these players are playing longer seasons and on shorter rest. Extra time in the air with limited movement and leg space only adds to the wear on these athletes’ bodies.

The constant changing of time zones also does a number on the players. The less the travel miles and in and out of differing time zones the more consistent athletes can feel and play.

Here’s how the Texans’ 2024 travel schedule breaks down against the rest of the NFL.

Total mileage and time zones

Bill Speros, the senior betting analyst at Bookies.com listed the total mileage for each team's upcoming travel along with the time zones that they will enter in and out of during the season.

The Chargers drew the short stick for 2024 with the most total mileage (26,803) and the most time zones (36). The Commanders came in with the least amount of total mileage (10,550) with the Texans ranking 19th overall in total mileage (18,052). Houston was the only team in single-digits for time zones traveled with 8.

The Texans benefit from third-coast living in the middle of the country whereas the Chargers will be a west-coast team traveling the nation.

Texans’ 2024 road schedule

Houston will travel in-state to Dallas this year for one of their road games. The Texans will also travel to AFC South foes in Nashville, Jacksonville and Indianapolis. They’ll also make trips to Kansas City, Minnesota, Green Bay, New England and New York to face the Jets

The Texans went 4-4 on the road in 2023 and lost in Baltimore during the Divisional round of the playoffs as well. As a rookie, quarterback C.J. Stroud had four games in which he didn’t throw for a touchdown. All four were losses on the road with two against the Ravens (Week 1 & Divisional Round), one against the Jets and one against the Panthers.

Houston has one of the toughest schedules for 2024 as they face 11 teams in 17 games that had a winning record last season. Out of the six teams with 11 wins or more from 2023 that the Texans face in 2024, four of them will travel to Houston for the game.

The travel schedule for the Texans along with home-field advantage against the bulk of their toughest opponents this season could be the push the Texans need to take another step forward in what is expected to be a tightly contested AFC in 2024.
