The 2024 National Football League season will kick off on Thursday night and yet the Carolina Panthers still are making moves.
Carolina added some more offensive depth on Wednesday by snatching undrafted rookie tight end Messiah Swinson off the Green Bay Packers practice squad, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.
"The Panthers have added a tight end to their roster ahead of Week One," Alper said. "The team announced that they signed Messiah Swinson off of the Packers practice squad. They had an open roster spot after releasing edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson earlier this week.
"Swinson was undrafted out of Arizona State this year and signed to the Green Bay practice squad after being released as part of their cut to 53 players. He was targeted with one pass in the preseason but did not have a reception. Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble have been dealing with injuries, which leaves Swinson, Ja’Tavion Sanders, and Jordan Matthews as the healthy players at the position."
Swinson is just 24 years old and showed some promise throughout the summer for the Packers. He was cut ahead of the National Football League's deadline to trim rosters down to 53 players but still showed enough promise to be brought back on the practice squad.
He now will have a chance with the Panthers' with Week 1 action just a few days away now.
